The fable of King Midas meets the Twilight Zone in middle school!

Caleb is your average pre-teen/early-teen. He struggles against a world that he increasingly feels ready to tackle, but it seems intent on giving him more and more rules to follow. A chance encounter gives him the opportunity to finally make the world play according to his rules, but Caleb finds that sometimes control isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In the end, though, nothing is as it seems, and Caleb learns his lesson just in the nick of time…

Super flexible script:

  • For 9-20+ performers (up to 14 with lines), all flexible. Only one (minor) character needs to be specifically the opposite sex of any other.
  • Written for middle school, plays great for high school, also.
  • Suitable for small to medium stages.
  • Can be done with as little as suggestive sets.
  • Minimal tech requirements (no light faders or spot necessary, minimal sound effects cues).
  • Suitable for either middle or high school one-act competition like UIL or TAPPS.

Script content:

  • Crowd-pleaser play!
  • Exciting, fast-paced story.
  • Dramatic plot twist.
  • Tragic, but triumphant ending.
  • Not religious, but does ambiguously imply an afterlife.
  • Again, to be clear: this is NOT a religious play. (Occasionally we hear confusion from folks who see that Mike also wrote Mary’s Stories.)
