“Mary’s Stories” Performance Rights

$100.00

Performance rights per performance.

Category:

Description

This item is for the performance rights to a single performance of any number of Mary’s Stories scripts. You need to purchase one item for each performance time you plan to give.

Performance rights are included with sufficient copies of the scripts (see below) only for performances at events where NO money is changing hands. For instance…

  • no ticket prices are charged for your performance.
  • no sponsorships are collected to fund the performance.
  • no donations are asked for, recommended, solicited, or collected.
  • no concessions, food, or beverages are being sold anywhere at the event.
  • no raffle tickets or other drawing opportunities are sold.
  • no one is there because it’s included in a Sunday school, VBS, camp, or class that had a tuition or participation cost.

These criteria apply for everywhere at the event where the performance is given, not just in the vicinity of the performance itself. For instance, if you’re having a festival and the performance will be part of your festival then you owe a license fee if there will be food, donations, concessions, etc. somewhere other than (or at a different time of day than) the performance itself.

Purchased performance rights are good for the performance of up to all nine stories, provided they are all performed consecutively and without a change in seating. A brief intermission after every other story is ok, but if you are admitting additional audience members or have additional start times scheduled then you must purchase additional rights for each of the additional start/admission times.

How many copies of the scripts is enough to use the free performance rights?

First, to be clear: no quantity of scrips alleviates the requirement for a licensing fee if your performance doesn’t comply with the criteria above.

You need one copy for each performer and technical personnel, plus one copy for each director or anyone else who will be reading along in rehearsal or during the performance. If the director is also a performer then you don’t need an extra copy for the director, because you already had to purchase a script for that person. In essence: one script per person, one person per script. You are never allowed to make photocopies of the scripts for anyone who doesn’t have an actual published copy of the scripts.
